American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PACU position in a critical access hospital requiring prior Phase 1 recovery experience and compact or licensure.
Details- Work in a 14-bed Perioperative Care unit with 3 PACU bays and 11 interchangeable bays for pre-op, same day discharge, and Endo
- Assigned across pre-op, PACU (Phase 1 and Phase
2), pre-Endo, and post-Endo areas - Common cases include ortho total joints (IP and OP), sports medicine, ortho trauma, general surgery, GYN, C-sections, endoscopy, with occasional plastics and neuro/spinal cases
- Treats older pediatric patients for ortho trauma and some younger pediatric dental cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios follow ASPAN guidelines
- Uses Epic EMR
- 8 and 10 hour shifts available, with start times between 6-8am; 12 hour shifts rarely used
- No self-scheduling offered
- RNs are responsible for reading cardiac strips
- Weeknight call scheduled 6pm-7am, typically 5-6 shifts per month
- Weekend call runs 24 hours Friday 6pm through Monday 7am, assigned on a rotation basis
- On-call response time is 30 minutes; must remain within 30 minutes of the hospital while on call
- May be assigned holiday call if a holiday falls during the contract
- Floating across pre-op, PACU (Phase 1/2), pre-Endo, and post-Endo is an expected part of the role, not considered floating
- Active RN license ( compact) required
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required
- 2 years of PACU experience preferred; candidates with 1 year PACU experience and extensive inpatient nursing background will be considered
- Must have Phase 1 recovery experience and solid general surgical recovery skills
- Limited endoscopy or C-section experience is acceptable
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years worked, both including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Unit staffed with charge nurses and an ANM scheduled Monday-Friday; charge nurse typically covers lunches and assists with efficiency rather than carrying an assignment
- 2 CNAs on staff Monday-Friday to assist with HUC duties, room turnovers, and other tasks; all RNs are expected to help clean and turnover rooms
- Respiratory therapy available as needed
- No ICU on-site; patients requiring a higher level of care remain in OR/PACU with anesthesia provider until transport arrives
- Scrubs are provided
- Unit-specific orientation includes a preceptor pairing for 3-5 shifts, covering unit norms and system values
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Permanent employees must wait one year after leaving before applying for a travel assignment
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for this position
