Position: Senior Hockey Instructor/ Staff Coach
Location: Idaho City

Lead, coach, and elevate the hockey experience! The Senior Hockey Instructor/ Staff Coach plays a key role in delivering high-quality recreational hockey programming by instructing and coaching youth and adult hockey classes and supporting the coaching of house league youth teams. This position emphasizes skill development, safety, teamwork, and sportsmanship while providing exceptional customer service to participants, families, and visitors. Open to individuals ages 18 and older.

Idaho Ice World is Idaho’s premier indoor family ice skating and entertainment center, offering adult and youth hockey leagues, figure skating programs, Learn-to-Skate and Learn-to-Play Hockey programs, and public skating sessions—serving as a community hub for recreation, learning, and fun on the ice.

  • Instructs and coaches adult and youth hockey classes and teams. Follows plans from the Hockey Department. Prepares ice for practice by checking nets and ice for safety hazards.
  • Answers questions from parents, guardians, and players regarding practice plans.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • Five years of experience playing league hockey.
Knowledge of:
  • Ice hockey rules and regulations;
  • Fundamentals of ice hockey to include skating, shooting, passing, etc.
  • General customer service techniques.
Ability to:
  • Interpret and apply various rules and regulation.
  • Maintain good relations with coaches, officials, parents, and players.
  • Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations.
  • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
  • Complete assignments in a timely fashion.
  • Understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
  • Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Licensing And Other Requirements
  • USA Hockey registered member
  • Willing to become a level 1 USA Hockey Certified coach, which includes continuing coaching education.
Special Requirements Applicants must be able to pass:
  • City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds and rarely lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is frequently pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds. The noise level is frequently moderate and rarely loud. Work includes sensory ability to touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Employees will sit, stand, walk, run, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity. Additional physical efforts include: position will frequently be skating on ice.

Working Environment

The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Work includes protected exposure to bodily fluids.
