1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School

Location: Ilford & Surrounding Areas

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term, part time

About the Role

Destination Education is currently recruiting for a caring and committed 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a range of supportive primary schools in Ilford and the surrounding areas. This rewarding role is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping children with additional needs thrive both academically and personally. As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated support to pupils with Special Educational Needs, helping them access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.

You will work closely with class teachers, SENCo's, and other support staff to implement personalised learning strategies and create a positive, nurturing environment where pupils can develop confidence, independence, and key life skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with Special Educational Needs.
  • Assist in implementing EHCPs and individual learning plans.
  • Support pupils with their academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and promote engagement in learning.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals to ensure consistent support.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers and support staff.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Experience supporting children with SEN, either in a school or similar setting.
  • A patient, caring, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Ability to support pupils with a range of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, and speech and language difficulties.
  • Passionate about making a positive impact on children's education and wellbeing.
  • Relevant SEN qualifications or training are desirable but not essential.
