Special Needs Teaching Assistant. Education & Training

Empowering Learning is working with a special needs school in Ilkeston, who are recruiting for a teaching assistant to work with their dedicated and supportive team. The role is to start as soon as possible.

You will be involved in classroom duties and off‑site recreational activities.

• Assist the lead teacher in implementing educational programmes and activities for students.
• Provide support to students with special needs, including those with autism.
• Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Help students with daily tasks, such as personal care and hygiene.
• Support students in their academic and social development.
• Collaborate with the lead teacher to develop and implement education, health and care plans for students.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher.
• Assist with classroom management and behaviour management strategies.

• Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs and challenging behaviours.
• Knowledge of special education practices and strategies.
• Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, parents and colleagues.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Patience, empathy and a positive attitude towards working with children.
• Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle challenging behaviours.
• Knowledge of toddler care and development is a plus.

The teaching assistant will work closely with the lead teacher to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is essential.

Strong communication skills are also important for effectively collaborating with students, parents and colleagues.
