Under the direct supervision of the building principal, assistant principal, and classroom teacher, the instructional aide assists the classroom teacher in learning activities related to student class work.

• Assists the classroom teacher in working with individual students to reinforce instructional material initially introduced by the teacher.
• Assists the teacher with instructional and non-instructional classroom duties, such as assistance in laboratories, washrooms, playgrounds, gymnasiums, lunchrooms, libraries, field trips, and all other settings as determined by the classroom teacher.
• Helps prepare and distribute lesson materials.
• Instructs students under the teacher’s supervision.
• Keeps the classroom neat and orderly and assists the teacher in preparing and maintaining bulletin boards.
• Assists with preparing and maintaining student records when requested.
• Sets up and operates audiovisual equipment.
• Attends district and/or school meetings when necessary or appropriate.
• Assists with escorting students from the bus to their classroom.
• Accompanies students to special area classes as needed.
• Participates in collaborative planning for instruction with the classroom teacher.
• Assists the teacher in preparing the classroom for school, storing materials, and getting the classroom ready for the closing of school.
• Supervises students in the playground, lunchroom, buses and other non-instructional areas as required and requested by the classroom teacher and/or principal and assistant principal.
• Serves as a substitute teacher for absent teachers when assigned, and if appropriately certified.
• Interfaces with all levels of staff within the school building.
• Performs other related duties as may be necessary and assigned by the building principal, assistant principal, and classroom teacher.

• Must possess a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours of undergraduate credit from an approved or accredited institution of higher education and hold a valid Illinois state paraprofessional license.
• A valid Illinois teacher certificate is preferred, but not required.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with staff and students, and the ability to work as a team member.
• Demonstrates cooperation and openness for professional growth.
• Demonstrates organizational skills, efficiency, cooperation, and self‑direction.
• Demonstrates the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
