Bus Assistant Substitute

Description

• Assist the bus driver in maintaining safe student conduct on the bus.
• Assist student in getting on and off the bus.
• Provide assistance to student boarding and exiting the bus.
• Assist driver in assuring students depart the bus in an orderly fashion.
• Provide assistance (if needed) securing students in appropriate restraints.
• Collect items left on bus by student and take to the Transportation Office.
• Assist and support with safety and health protocols of students. Specific training will be provided by district staff in accordance to the student's needs such as asthma, diabetes, seizure, etc.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.

To assist in the safe and efficient transportation of student to and from school activities.

• High school diploma or equivalent. Certification by the Illinois State Coordinator of Education as a state and NCLB approved paraprofessional (minimum of 60 credit hours or passage of Para Pro Prxis Test).
• Ability to work effectively with students and adults.
• Regular attendance and punctuality.
• Physical ability to lift students weighing 50lbs. or less.
• Responsible attitude toward the safety and well-being of students.

Placement on non-certified support staff schedule, depending on college credit and/or training experience.
