EVALUATION:
Evaluated yearly by the building administration, with input from the Director of Special Services, in accordance with the Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Personnel.
PAY: $20.00/hr, 33.75 hour work week. Benefits and workday are as specified in Board of Education Policy and Procedure Manual. Special Services Paraprofessionals who are required to perform toileting duties such as changing diapers, help students undress and dress when bath rooming and assisting with personal hygiene will receive extra pay at a rate of $0.75 per hour to their pay rate.
OVERVIEWOF THE POSITION
Supports special needs children during the school day, under the supervision of certified staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIESWorks with student(s) to reinforce lessons initially introduced by the teacher(s). Assists individual children in need of special attention. Guides independent study and modified work prepared by the teacher(s) where and when needed. Assists with instructional practices and procedures at the teachers’ discretion. Assists teachers with non-instructional classroom duties including but not limited to:
- Clean up routines
- Duties related to supervision of playground, study hall, bus loading, assemblies, and field trips etc.
Assists students in special area classes where appropriate. Alerts teachers to any problem or special information about students. Assists with any other projects assigned by teacher(s) and/or building administration.
REQUIREMENTS- High School diploma
- NCLB and State paraprofessional certification
- Specialized training (i.e. restraint training, etc.) as needed
- Valid First Aid/CPR cards preferred
Ability to move freely to various locations within the building and perform duties (typically involving frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting). Frequent repetitive activities, including hands and arms, for clerical related work. Occasional exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Ability to travel outside the district for a variety of meetings and conferences.
