PositionUnder the supervision of the Coordinator or Manager of Tutoring Services & Academic Support and with the support of Education Assistants – Academic Support, the Educational Assistant provides tutoring services for students in the Tutoring Services Center, assisting students with their academic studies to improve retention and completion of MATC coursework. Tutors develop employment skills, establish job references, attain tutoring credentials, and may earn certifications through MATC and the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).
Responsibilities- Provide tutoring assistance for assigned academic courses and subjects in walk-in situations, in classes, and in small groups as needed.
- Attend class periods of courses to which assigned and provide additional tutoring outside of class if requested.
- Maintain clear and open communication with students, teachers, staff, and academic advisors; provide regular progress updates; adapt tutoring style to meet student needs.
- Use data-tracking systems to log work hours and tutoring visits with students.
- Read textbooks and other materials and learn relevant software/applications for assigned courses.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, faculty, and administrators; serve as liaison between students and faculty.
- Maintain ethics and confidentiality in all interactions; address student and employee behavior confidentially and respectfully.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development through trainings, workshops, and conferences as applicable.
- Perform other related duties within the scope of the position to support institutional objectives.
Minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average overall and a minimum of a B grade in the specific course or program courses to which assigned to provide tutoring services.

- Knowledge of instructional procedures for a tutoring program.
- Basic knowledge of office operation and management.
- Ability to understand and support the student-teacher relationship.
- Familiarity with the instructional process and use of instructional media.
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Ability to establish, collaborate, and maintain effective relationships with peers, students, teachers, and staff.
- Professionalism and dedication in work-related activities.
- Ability to work with culturally diverse student and employee populations.
- Proficiency with computers and position-specific software, including Google Suite.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and serve as a leadership resource to others.
This is a part-time position (FTE 0.475) up to 19 hours per week. Hours may vary based on needs and are Monday through Friday.
