Position: Instructor, Culinary Arts (Part-Time)

Under the direction of the Dean, Creative Arts, Design & Media, develops and teaches concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. May require teaching courses at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, and online during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Related duties include participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non-traditional formats, online courses, staff development, conduct open labs (if/when necessary), student advising, student outcome assessment and quality review assessment and implementation, student organization involvement, recruitment and retention of students, and other duties as assigned.

Required to keep current with the latest trends and technologies in discipline.

Instructional Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver engaging instruction in accordance with established curriculum guidelines.
  • Manage classroom/laboratory environments to ensure a conducive learning atmosphere.
  • Develop, monitor, and revise curriculum to maintain course effectiveness and relevance.
  • Manage equipment, supplies, and materials necessary for instructional activities.
  • Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback to support their academic growth.
  • Advise students on academic matters and provide guidance to support their educational journey.
  • Collaborate with advisory committees, colleagues, and industry partners to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings to contribute to academic planning and decision-making.
  • Promote educational programs, participate in student recruitment efforts, and support initiatives to retain students.
  • Support student organizations and activities to enrich their educational experience.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with business and industry partners to facilitate student opportunities and program growth.
  • Complete program evaluations, engage in continuous professional development, and stay current in the field.
Requirements

Must meet one of the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in a Culinary Arts or Hospitality-related field.
  • An Associate’s degree (AAS/AA) in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
  • An Associate’s degree (AAS/AA) in Culinary Arts and seven (7) years (14,000 hours) of experience and training, including one (1) year of Supervision Management in Culinary Arts.
  • A Culinary Arts Apprenticeship completion certificate from the Wisconsin Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards (BAS), a federally registered program, or a signed letter from a representative of an MATC apprenticeship advisory committee, and seven (7) years (14,000 hours) of experience and training, including one (1) year of Supervision Management in Culinary Arts.

In addition to meeting the educational requirement, applicants must also have a minimum of 4,000 hours of experience as a Chef or Manager in a Hospitality-related field. Additionally, one of the following must be met:

  • At least 1,000 hours of that experience must have occurred within the last five (5) years.
  • Two years of teaching Culinary Arts coursework at the post-secondary level within the past five years.

Must provide proof of valid Serv Safe Manager Certification from the National Restaurant Association with an overall passing score of 90% before first teaching assignment. American Culinary Federation (ACF) Certified Executive Chef (CEC), Certified Chef de Cuisine (CCC), Certified Culinary Educator (CCE), or related certification preferred.

Additional Information

This position is a part-time faculty pool position. Assignments and schedule will depend on course availability. Work schedule may vary and could include in person, online, hybrid, evening, and weekend teaching assignments.
