Residential Mentors Position
Residential Mentors will help design and implement a summer program during late May through June 2023. The program will involve mentoring high school seniors during a three‑week residential summer program in the last three weeks of June 2023. There are five open positions; two are residential and three are for commuters.
The role begins in late April/early May with personal contact with Scholars, attendance at information sessions, participation in a three‑day orientation from June 7th to 9th, and leading the orientation for Scholars on Sunday, June 11.
Key Responsibilities- Lead morning seminar debriefs and writing‑strategy sessions for Scholars.
- Manage afternoon activities—sports, workshops, college‑planning sessions—and supervise written reflections.
- Oversee dinner and evening activities (including movie nights and guest speakers) for Team 2 and ensure safety and support through nighttime hours.
- Coordinate floating mentor duties to support both Team 1 and Team 2 during peak periods.
- Support the College’s mission, demonstrate continuous quality improvement, and promote an inclusive and collaborative environment.
- Assist with administrative tasks and campus safety responsibilities throughout the program.

- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with students, staff, and faculty.
- Skill in conflict resolution and building social and emotional learning, especially with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Familiarity with the college application process and college readiness skills for first‑generation college‑goers from low‑income or historically marginalized families.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, as well as writing and editing skills.
- Proficiency in presenting and communicating complex ideas in both written and oral forms.
- Demonstrated interest in civic or political issues.
- Experience organizing or leading others.
- Must be a rising college sophomore, junior, or senior, or have graduated within the last two years and demonstrated excellence in college writing courses.
- Experience as a Residential Assistant or managing younger students in a residential setting or on field trips (desired).
- Ability or interest in sports or expressive or visual arts (not required but appreciated).
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR (not required but appreciated).
- WSI or lifeguard certificate (not required but appreciated).
Position requires no driving. It involves nighttime responsibilities and campus safety duties. The role includes working with minors. Approximate work hours per week vary. The position is open until filled.
