Hammond, IN (Remote or Hybrid work arrangement; candidates within reasonable commuting distance of Hammond, IN are strongly preferred to support local client projects).

Overview

This role will be responsible for relay protection & control engineering, including detailed design for high‑voltage substation and transmission projects up to 500 kV. The incumbent shall prepare and guide engineering deliverables such as one‑ and three‑line diagrams; schematics and wiring diagrams; control and relaying panel layouts and specifications; SCADA and communication interfaces; auxiliary system design; and overall bill of materials.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize NEC, NESC, NEMA, ANSI, IEEE, industry standard practices, client standards, and applicable guidelines to complete engineering designs.
  • Provide technical support for clients and support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource under the direction of the Department Manager.
  • Collaborate in a project team environment with other engineers and designers on detailed electrical design and project management of utility substation projects.
  • Participate in project conceptualization, work planning, and project execution.
  • Support pre‑bid walkdowns with clients and prepare, review, and approve proposals and project estimates for new client projects.
  • Lead execution of engineering activities.
  • Design protection and control systems, including panel arrangements, single‑line and three‑line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and wiring design.
  • Perform calculations for studies and reports and prepare equipment and installation specifications.
  • Coordinate design activities with other disciplines and groups.
  • Develop and improve processes, tools, and technology within the organization.
  • Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to other engineers and team members.
  • Regularly meet and correspond with clients or external partners.
  • Perform quality reviews for other engineers and designers.
  • Conduct field visits for site walkdowns, constructability reviews, construction support, and other site meetings as needed.
  • Support business development and marketing initiatives.
  • Other assignments may include relay setting development, 3‑D modeling/design, or participation in industry/professional technical committees.
  • Work with the Project Management team to develop project plans and provide project updates.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university, or a related field with equivalent experience.
  • Position filled at an appropriate level according to candidate experience (Master’s degree may be considered as up to 1 year experience).
  • Engineer I – 0+ years related experience
  • Engineer II – 1+ years related experience
  • Engineer III – 3+ years related experience
  • Engineer IV – 5+ years related experience
  • Professional Engineer registration or ability to obtain P.E. registration strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with NESC, IEEE, and other relevant codes and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize multiple complex assignments and competing priorities to produce accurate products on time.
  • Ability to collaborate in cross‑functional work teams.
  • Exceptional analytical and decision‑making skills, with a record of positive interactions with clients.
  • Experience in creating and reviewing substation design drawings.
  • Proficient with current software applications used for substation design work.
  • Ability to work effectively with remotely located team members.
  • Requires the ability to pass a post‑offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test in compliance with federal regulations and is subject to random testing as a condition of continued employment.
