Role Overview:
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our US New Product Development team. The mechatronic product portfolio within our Transportation business is diverse, ranging from small valve cartridges to integrated systems featuring multiple valves and closed-loop control electronics. These products are primarily used in commercial and off-road vehicles.
As the Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role within the global team, driving new product developments. You will be responsible for delivering and coordinating the design and development of customized solutions, from project initiation to the start of series production.
Work Environment: This position offers a flexible work arrangement, though the successful candidate must be within commuting distance of our University Park, IL site, as on-site presence may be required several times a week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop sophisticated and innovative systems that meet customer requirements.
- Evaluate technical customer requirements from specifications and create corresponding technical specifications for suppliers.
- Lead a team of engineers in the development of new products and systems.
- Understand the interfaces between our product and the customer system, ensure compatibility, and identify opportunities for product enhancement.
- Participate in and, when necessary, lead technical discussions with customers, develop product concepts, and propose innovative solutions to customer challenges.
- Define and align technical requirements for assigned development tasks, ensuring assemblies are delivered on time and meet functional and installation requirements.
- Support the global procurement team in evaluating and selecting suitable suppliers.
- Create and review schedules and cost plans to ensure product development stays on track and within budget.
- Initiate corrective actions as needed.
- Define and, if necessary, develop test setups and equipment.
- Analyze test results and monitor design implementation.
- Lead design reviews and D-FMEA workshops.
Critical Competencies for Success:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, specializing in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering (required).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the production-oriented design of mechanical components.
- Proven experience in developing products from concept to serial production.
- Strong background in working within cross-functional teams and familiarity with automotive core tools (APQP, PPAP).
- Preferred experience with FEM calculation methods (e.g., Ansys) and system simulations (e.g., Matlab/Simulink).
- Experience in the automotive sector is highly desirable, preferably within commercial vehicles.
- Experience with pneumatic chassis applications is an advantage.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently while following structured processes.
- Highly collaborative, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, drive consensus, and achieve objectives.
- Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software, preferably Creo or Solid Works.
- Knowledge of electro-pneumatic system design.
