A Day in the Life of a Structural Bridge Engineer at Hanson- Lead or assist in leading bridge projects within Hanson's Infrastructure Market, including highway and railway bridges, and potentially other structural projects across various markets.
- Perform complex engineering calculations and utilize software tools for analysis and design.
- Collaborate with senior technical staff and multidisciplinary teams on significant national projects.
- Conduct structural analysis and design, prepare specifications, details, and construction plans.
- Assign duties, manage project budgets, and mentor entry- and mid-level staff and technicians.
- Prepare and review calculations, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates.
- Support project pursuits and proposal development.
- Assist in developing project scopes and fee proposals.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
- Experience with steel girder, prestressed concrete, and earth retaining structure design.
- Familiarity with AREMA design code and railway bridge design (preferred).
- Proficiency in structural analysis software such as Risa, Midas, LARSA, Leap Bridge Concrete, L-Pile, and AASHTOWare.
- Ability to work independently and lead others.
- Task management and client service focus.
- Experience supporting proposal development.
- Design‑Build project experience (preferred).
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strong relationship‑building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Interest in varied assignments and continuous learning.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with structural coursework required.
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering (preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
- Structural Engineer (SE) registration or ability to obtain one required; SE registration preferred.
- Approved Team Leader by IDOT for NBIS Bridge Inspections (preferred).
- Experience with DOT bridge design practices and standards.
- Project experience with IDOT, Illinois Tollway, FDOT, and TxDOT (preferred).
- Experience with complex bridge types and components.
- Participation in technical societies.
- Experience managing project staff.
The salary range for this position is $105,000 to $160,000 per year. Salary offered is based on years of relevant experience.
