.

The mission of the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) is medical translation: transferring biomedical research findings into novel approaches to personalized prediction, prevention, diagnostics and therapies and, conversely, using clinical observations to develop new research ideas. The aim is to deliver relevant medical benefits to patients and the population ce 2021 the BIH has been integrated into Charité as its so‑called third pillar.

For the team of Prof. L. Vallier starting now until 25 September 2028 we are looking for a Technical Assistant (d/f/m) in full‑time (38.5 h/week). The Vallier lab based at the BCRT will take advantage of human induced pluripotent stem cells and primary organoids to understand liver development in humans and to generate cells with a clinical interest for modelling diseases and for cell‑based therapies applications.

More precisely, we investigate the molecular mechanisms controlling cell fate decisions during human development and exploit the resulting knowledge to produce liver cells especially hepatocytes and cholangiocytes.

What you can expect

The candidate will join the ARPA‑H project LIVE which aims to bioprint an entire human liver for transplantation in the context of acute liver disease. The role of the candidate will be (i) to identify and to characterise GMP‑grade human induced pluripotent stem cell lines suitable for the project, (ii) to produce, to characterise and to quality‑control large quantities of liver cells for the project, and (iii) to develop new methods for differentiation of hiPSC lines using bioreactor technology.

The resulting cells will then be used to bioprint an artificial liver in vitro in collaboration with the international network of the ARPA‑H LIVE program.
