Within the Dean's Office, the Research and Facilities unit serves as the central hub for all matters related to research activities and facilities projects across the college. This team manages all CNS space and oversees the planning, approval and execution of renovations and building projects, including faculty recruitment space needs, teaching and research labs, and shared facilities.
This position is currently funded through 2027, with the possibility of extension.
PurposeThe role provides professional leadership and management for multiple complex planning and capital facilities projects on all CNS facilities at the University of Texas s position plays a critical part in delivering facilities solutions that support the college's teaching, research, and public service mission.
ResponsibilitiesLead complex natural sciences facilities projects during planning, design and construction phases. Provide project leadership, support effective communication, coordinate project activities, and resolve conflicts as needed to ensure project goals are met. Oversee and manage project budget, scope of work, and schedule. Drive progress of project teams to achieve expected owner’s project requirements.
Coordinate with UT Austin Campus Operations staff to procure and manage design and construction teams in support of natural sciences planning and capital facilities projects.
Other related functions as assigned. Collaborate with UT Austin colleagues to initiate and develop process improvements.
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, construction science, or related discipline. A minimum of 5 years of experience providing project management of design and construction activities for renovations and new construction, including institutional or commercial facilities. Excellent communication, collaboration and organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple simultaneous activities in a varied and complex environment. Strong organizational skills and attentiveness to detail.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications10 years of experience working on a university campus in a facilities-related role. Experience with planning, design, construction, commissioning, and/or operation of higher education and/or scientific facilities as the owner’s representative. Licensed Architect or Engineer in the State of Texas, or licensure in another state and eligible for reciprocity with the State of Texas, or ability to obtain professional licensure in the State of Texas within two years.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or other similar demonstration of formal project management training. Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Suite, and Computer Aided Design software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, ProE).
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant must provide a three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
Salary Range$100,000
