Available Shifts
  • 1st Shift (Day):
    Monday - Thursday, 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM

  • Weekend Day Shift: Friday - Sunday, 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM (Work 36 hours, paid for 40 hours)
Job Summary

Perform fabrication, assembly, repair, inspection, and maintenance of locomotive components. Ensure all work meets Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and company specifications. This role requires knowledge of various welding processes and strict adherence to railroad safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Weld and fabricate heavy plate and sheet metal on locomotive parts in all positions (vertical, flat, overhead).
  • Perform welding using MIG, Dual-Shield, Flux-Core, Stick, Pipe, and Fabrication processes.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and weld procedure specifications (WPS).
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair locomotive mechanical components.
  • Operate and maintain welding equipment, cutting torches, and grinders safely.
  • Maintain accurate written and computer records of all repair and maintenance work.
  • Follow all FRA regulations, including Personal Blue Signal Protection.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and problem-solving activities.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Advanced Responsibilities
  • Perform specialized pipe welding.
  • Train and mentor junior welders.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional welding experience, preferably as a locomotive welder.
  • Strong knowledge of MIG, Dual-Shield, Flux-Core, Stick, Pipe, and Fabrication welding processes.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and knowledge of locomotive components.
  • Ability to read and work from technical drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Welder status.
  • Certifications in SMAW and socket pipe welding.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform physical activities including climbing, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Capability to work in confined spaces and at heights over 6 feet using proper safety equipment.
  • Willingness to work indoors or outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperature extremes.
  • Exposure to high noise levels and welding arcs.
  • Must work effectively as part of a team.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position requiring strict adherence to all safety procedures.
