Statement of Beliefs – NEW HORIZON CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Principle Function:
The pastor is responsible to the Church Leadership Team to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, to preach biblically-sound sermons which effectively communicate the heart of God, to engage in pastoral care ministry, and to provide leadership to all areas of church life.

Primary Traits:
While leading the worship service and preaching are vital parts of this position, we believe that a candidate with the following traits will thrive as a leader of our congregation:

• Community Leadership:
  The pastor should be aware of and concerned with the community needs, activities, affairs, and be knowledgeably capable of addressing these concerns from a pastoral perspective, thus establishing respect in the
• Crisis Ministry:
  The pastor will minister to the congregation in the midst of crises such as death, sickness, or other traumatic events of individual lives.
• Family:
  The pastor should effectively manage work life balance and be a positive leader in their own family. The family should be a positive support system to the pastor, as well, because of the demands and responsibilities of the role.
• Teaching and Theology:
  The pastor must have a strong understanding of Scripture and sound theology. NHCC believes Scripture to be the inerrant Word of God, not to be manipulated to support political, social, or personal opinions. The pastor’s theology should align with the core theology and beliefs of NHCC in all respects.
• Vision:
  The pastor should be excited about their calling to the ministry and to our church and should possess a vision of God’s work here, enthusiastically sharing it with the church.
• Personal Commitment: A candidate must subscribe to the Statement of Beliefs and the bylaw provisions of this church. Their life must align with the qualifications of a pastor as described in I Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:6–9.

• Pursues the following traits daily:
  Integrity, leadership, discipleship, administration, evangelism, stewardship, pastoral care, self-control, self-motivation, vision casting, life-long learner.

• Oversee the coordination of the worship services
• Partner with the Elders on sermon plans and delivery as well as bible study teachings (i.e., the Elders and Senior Minister should be in alignment on sermon series development.)
• Lead the church in an effective program of witnessing and in a caring ministry for persons in the church and community
• Provide pastoral care for the church family along with the other church leaders and members, including pastoral calls and hospital calls.
• Perform wedding ceremonies; conduct funerals
• Work with area ministry leaders, church staff, and committees as they perform their assigned responsibilities; train and lead them in ministry
• Equip the members of NHCC to carry out the work and ministry of Jesus Christ through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
• Act as an active member of church leadership and business meetings
• Work in partnership with the Elders, to establish effective leadership over church members, staff, and ministry volunteers to cultivate a healthy team environment.
• Join in as an active member in a life group with your church body.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in ministry from an evangelical Bible college.
• 5+ years experience pastoring a church preferred.
