Requirements:Education:

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Training and
Experience:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 3 months of hire.
- Orientation/training in OR/PACU required.
- Perioperative or PACU experience preferred.
Hamilton Memorial Hospital District has an immediate opening for a full-time Surgery RN. At HMHD our mission is to enhance the delivery of healthcare to our community and the surrounding area by providing accessible quality healthcare services. HMHD utilizes the premier electronic medical record system EPIC with My Chart as an amenity for patients and staff.
The Surgery Staff Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care across the perioperative continuum, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative (PACU) settings. The RN functions as a circulator, scrub nurse, and recovery nurse, while also assisting with sterilization, packaging, and inventory management of surgical instruments and supplies. The RN promotes patient safety, service excellence, and compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and quality initiatives.
Wage Scale:
$30.05-$43.27 per hour
Essential Functions:
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments (pre-, intra-, post-op) and document accurately.
- Function as scrub nurse, circulating nurse, and PACU recovery nurse as assigned.
- Administer IV fluids, medications, and blood products safety per provider order and hospital policy.
- Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition, including emergencies.
- Provide patient and family education appropriate to age, development, and culture regarding procedures, recovery, medications, activity, diet, and discharge needs.
- Prepare, maintain, and stock operating rooms and recovery areas.
- Ensure proper site/consent verification, time-out, and patient positioning.
- Apply and maintain sterile and aseptic technique, correcting breaks immediately.
- Provide safe recovery care, ensuring smooth transition to next level of care.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and team members.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation and ensure confidentiality.
Position Responsibilities:
- Perform cleaning, packaging, sterilization, and inventory control of surgical instruments and supplies.
- Complete and document daily autoclave testing, load logs, and labeling.
- Maintain equipment knowledge and demonstrate competency in use and troubleshooting.
- Participate in hospital quality improvement (QAPI), patient safety, and Just Culture initiatives.
- Support infection control and safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with orientation and training of new employees and students.
- Serve on committees or projects as assigned.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and service excellence with patients, families, and coworkers.
