Description

The Monitored Care Unit (MCU) Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients using the Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care. Responsibilities include caring for medical, surgical, and monitored patients; performing comprehensive patient assessments; administering medications and treatments; monitoring and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory results; managing specialized equipment and therapies; caring for pre- and post-procedural patients;

coordinating patient transfers; providing patient and family education; and maintaining accurate documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). In the role of Nursing Supervisor, the nurse provides operational and clinical leadership during assigned shifts by coordinating patient flow and bed placement, supporting staffing needs, responding to emergencies, serving as a resource for nursing and ancillary staff, promoting compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards, and ensuring safe, quality patient care throughout the organization.

Education, License, or Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • Current BLS Certification required.
  • ACLS and PALS Certification preferred upon hire and required within six (6) months of employment.
    • Training and certification opportunities are available through Wabash General Hospital.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of acute care nursing experience preferred.
  • Critical care, monitored care, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong assessment, communication, leadership, and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations and manage multiple priorities.
  • Must maintain all required certifications and competencies in accordance with hospital policy.
