Overview

Under the general supervision of the Park Specialist II, Park Specialist I, or Park Support, the Summer Seasonal Park Maintenance position is responsible for assisting with a variety of semi‑skilled park maintenance activities necessary to maintain our parks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in the preparation and maintenance of turf, sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and other park facilities.
  • Conduct ornamental horticulture maintenance, including planting trees, shrubs, annual and perennial flowers; fertilization, seeding, mowing, sodding, and other horticulture needs.
  • Perform trail maintenance, including debris removal, grading, and renovation.
  • Maintain park pavilions, restrooms, equipment, signs, and assigned buildings.
  • Maintain park grounds through litter pickup and recycling activities, bathroom cleaning, vandalism removal, controlled prairie and wood burns, and hardscape maintenance.
  • Perform trim mowing in assigned parks.
  • Demonstrate and support District customer service standards.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist with the set‑up and tear‑down of special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work independently in day‑to‑day operations with general direction from a supervisor.
  • Able to receive and follow instruction.
Education and Experience
  • Valid driver's license.
Special Considerations
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Subject to both office and outside environmental conditions.
  • Subject to modified/flexible work schedules including weekends.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing ≤ 50 lbs on a daily basis; lifting assistance is required when lifting > 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to pesticides, chemicals, dust, fumes, dirt, loud noise, and insect bites.
  • Prolonged lifting, stooping, bending, twisting, standing, and climbing.
  • Ability to travel to and work at all Naperville Park District facilities.
  • Subject to respirator use; may be required to pass a quantitative fit test annually.
  • Manual dexterity and strength to operate power‑operated machines and equipment.
  • Regular onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.
