OverviewUnder the general supervision of the Park Specialist II, Park Specialist I, or Park Support, the Park Maintenance I & II positions are responsible for performing a variety of semi‑skilled park maintenance activities necessary to maintain our parks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Participate in the preparation and maintenance of the following:
- Turf, sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and other park facilities.
- Ornamental horticulture maintenance including planting trees, shrubs, and annual and perennial flowers, fertilization, seeding, mowing, sodding and other horticulture needs.
- Trail maintenance including debris removal, grading, and renovation.
- Park pavilions, restrooms, equipment, signs, and assigned buildings.
- Park grounds through litter pickup and recycling activities, bathroom cleaning, vandalism removal, controlled prairie and wood burns, and hardscape maintenance.
- Perform power and trim mowing in assigned parks.
- Demonstrate and support District customer service standards.
- Perform preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Assist with the set‑up and tear‑down of special events.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to work independently in day‑to‑day operations with general direction from supervisor.
- Able to receive and follow instruction.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Subject to both office and outside environmental conditions.
- Subject to modified/flexible work schedules including weekends.
- Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing ≤ 50 lbs on a daily basis. Lifting assistance is required when lifting > 50 lbs.
- Exposure to pesticides, chemicals, dust, fumes, dirt, loud noise, and insect bites.
- Prolonged lifting, stooping, bending, twisting, standing, and climbing.
- Ability to travel to and work at all Naperville Park District facilities.
- Subject to confined space entry. Will be required to participate in confined space entry training annually.
- Subject to respirator use. Will be required to pass a Quantitative Fit Test annually.
- Manual dexterity and strength to operate power‑operated machines and equipment.
- Regular onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.
