Grounds Worker

The Grounds Worker is responsible in the assistance in the maintenance of the grounds and landscaping of the college.

• Ability to apply principles of rational systems, (i.e. internal combustion engines, electric wiring systems, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables)
• Demonstrate clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
• Provide strong and clear communication, customer service, and inter-personal skills
• Ability to work independently
• Able to cooperatively work with diverse groups of students and staff

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 1-3 years’ experience related to general grounds and landscaping maintenance

• Work is normally performed in an outdoor setting and when necessary, in an indoor setting; this position requires reach, standing, walking, repetitive motions for the appropriate maintenance of the grounds
• This position has activity that requires the incumbent to lift 50lbs on occasions; 20lbs frequently, and 10lbs consistently.

• Maintain Grounds and landscape of College; responsibilities include mow lawns, maintain landscaping, maintain an attractive campus, trim bushes, pull weeds and replace plants in landscape beds, mulch.
• Maintain campus cleanliness by emptying trash containers, raking leaves, and removing debris from college grounds.
• Maintain athletic fields for practices and games.
• Maintaining landscape beds by weeding, replacing dead plants, planting flowers, spraying for pests or weeds, and mulching
• Pruning all trees and bushes as well as planting trees and bushes
• Working with Greenhouse Staff on various projects and horticulture students and instructors which includes the maintenance and management of prairie grass areas on campus.
• Maintain athletic fields for practices and games.
• Seasonally excavates dirt; removes snow; maintains walkways
• Perform other duties of a similar nature as assigned.
