Senior Opportunity: System Operator III in the Candlewick/Poplar Grove area. Under the direction of the Field Supervisor, this role is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment for water and wastewater treatment facilities in the area, and may assist with customer service as well.
Responsibilities- Operate and maintain facilities and equipment related to wastewater activated sludge treatment, lagoons, lift stations, and collection systems.
- Operate and maintain facilities and equipment related to wastewater and water treatment plants, well facilities, pumping, and storage facilities (as needed).
- Operate and maintain vehicles and equipment used in water and wastewater facilities.
- Perform and record inspections and tests on system operations; review associated data.
- Collect, analyze, and record water and wastewater samples for regulatory compliance and process control monitoring.
- Prepare reports required by the company, IEPA, ICC, or other jurisdictional entities.
- Respond to customer service, water distribution, and/or collection system work orders.
- Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned.
- Possess a High School Diploma (or Equivalent).
- Professional experience working with industrial mechanical systems and/or pumps is preferred.
- Must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s License; CDL is a plus.
- Class II Wastewater License.
- Class B Water License.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate professionally with internal customers.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read and follow operating instructions (written and verbal).
- Mathematical ability to perform ratios, dosages, and volumetric calculations for plant operation.
- Computer literacy and ability to operate plant processes through computer-controlled equipment.
- May be exposed to extreme temperatures, noise, wet/humid conditions, hazards, fumes, dusts, gases, and poor ventilation.
- Must be able to lift and move equipment over 50 lbs and work in confined spaces; lift test will be required during employment.
- Travel to Essential Utilities work sites as needed.
- Company vehicle provided for business purposes only.
- Weekly on-call rotating schedule to staff 24/7 operations.
- Must be able to pass fit testing.
- This is a union position. Wage information: starting wage for System Operator III is $35.45/hour; higher starting wages may apply with applicable licenses. A wage adjustment schedule applies for new hires within the bargaining unit on or after Jan 1, 2023.
