Assistant Recreation Manager (Ropes Course)
Assistant Recreation Managers are key members of the Recreation Department’s leadership team and play a vital role in supporting the Recreation Manager and ensuring the smooth operation of The Forge:
Lemont Quarries. They are held to the same expectations whether serving as the designated Manager On Duty or working a guide/host shift, and they are expected to address issues promptly as they arise rather than waiting for someone else to take action.
They assist in carrying out daily operational plans, help coordinate recreational programs and activities, and provide consistent guidance to staff to ensure a safe, positive, and high-quality experience for all guests. Throughout their work, Assistant Recreation Managers are expected to maintain a professional and respectful demeanor and to model The Forge:
Lemont Quarries’ standards in both their actions and presentation, reinforcing the values and direction set by the Recreation Manager.
Assistant Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversees ropes course opening and closing procedures to ensure safe and efficient daily operations.
- Serves as a keyholder, responsible for opening and closing park and attraction gates and containers.
- Conducts comprehensive opening and closing park sweeps, including checking all doors, gates, and secured areas, verifying equipment and facilities are safe and operational, and ensuring the park is properly secured at the start and end of each operating day.
- Operates a company vehicle during assigned work hours as required.
- Acts as the Manager on Duty (MOD) or Leader on Duty (LOD) during park operating hours.
- Provides support during staff training and onboarding.
- Acts as additional ground support and as a primary responder in rescue and emergency scenarios.
- Assists with the maintenance of the ropes course and related equipment as needed.
- Ensures guide rotations are running smoothly and that staff members are taking all required breaks.
- Acts as a “floater,” filling in wherever needed based on staffing levels and operational demands.
- Assists in identifying staffing needs, including breaks, call-offs, shift reductions, and calling in staff, as they relate to inventory, budget, guest satisfaction, safety, and company goals.
- Communicates with Forge leadership regarding any concerns, patterns, or occurrences that do not align with company goals, standards, or expectations, both financially and culturally.
- Informs management of all incidents and, when necessary, completes and submits an incident report within 24 hours of the occurrence.
- Maintains an in-depth knowledge of the ropes course and is able to operate it as needed.
- May be scheduled for other shifts as operational needs require.
- Completes park sweeps in accordance with The Forge policies and practices, using this time to check on team members and equipment to ensure everything is functioning properly.
- Facilitates an open and welcoming work environment by being inclusive and professional with both employees and guests.
- Sets the example for expected performance standards and professional behaviors.
- Maintains an in-depth knowledge of EOPs, LOPs, SOPs, and current events and activities in order to effectively support staff and guest interactions.
- Maintains an in-depth knowledge of current practices, information, and technical skills to ensure competency and the ability to successfully perform a variety of roles, including Explorer Host and Guide.
- Communicates with all employees and guests in a respectful and professional manner at all times.
- Holds themselves and others accountable for their actions and responsibilities.
- Demonstrates exceptional stewardship of park equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
- Treats employees and peers in a fair, consistent, and equitable manner.
- Remains open to and accepting of constructive feedback from employees, peers, and leadership.
- Ensures all employees adhere to conduct standards, guidelines, and expectations established by The Forge.
