Health & Safety Advisor - Immingham

Responsible for providing health and safety support and guidance across a major port construction project. The role involves monitoring compliance with HSE legislation, project requirements, and safe working procedures; conducting site inspections, risk assessments, and audits; investigating incidents and implementing corrective actions; delivering toolbox talks and safety briefings; and promoting a strong safety culture among contractors and project personnel.

Key responsibilities include:

Providing day-to-day HSE advice and guidance to project management, supervisors, engineers, contractors and subcontractors.
Monitoring construction and marine-related activities, including earthworks, excavation, lifting operations, heavy equipment movements, temporary works, civil works, structural installation and port infrastructure activities.
Conducting regular site inspections, safety observations, audits and compliance assessments to identify hazards and unsafe practices.
Reviewing and supporting the development of risk assessments, method statements, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Safe Systems of Work.
Ensuring appropriate control measures are implemented for high-risk activities, including lifting operations, working at height, confined spaces, hot work, excavation, electrical works and work near water.
Monitoring compliance with Permit-to-Work systems and verifying that required controls are in place before work commences.
Supporting the planning and execution of emergency preparedness activities, drills and response arrangements.
Conducting HSE inductions, toolbox talks, safety briefings and targeted training for employees and contractors.
Investigating incidents, near misses, unsafe acts and conditions, identifying root causes and supporting the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
Monitoring contractor and subcontractor HSE performance and ensuring compliance with project-specific requirements.
Maintaining HSE documentation, inspection records, incident reports, action trackers and performance statistics.
Following up on identified deficiencies and ensuring corrective actions are implemented and closed out within agreed time frames.
Participating in project HSE meetings and providing regular updates on safety performance, trends, risks and areas requiring management attention.
Promoting a positive safety culture through visible leadership, workforce engagement, behavioural safety initiatives and continuous improvement.
Supporting environmental controls relevant to port construction activities, including waste management, spill prevention, pollution control and protection of marine and surrounding environments.
Liaising with client representatives, contractors, regulatory authorities and other project stakeholders on HSE matters.
Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of project HSE plans, procedures, emergency arrangements and risk-control strategies.
Ensuring lessons learned from incidents, inspections and audits are communicated effectively and incorporated into future work activities
