Job Description & How to Apply Below
Are you ready to take the next step in your leadership journey and make a lasting impact on students' lives? Astrea Academy Woodfields is seeking a passionate and driven Lead Practitioner of Maths to join our ambitious team and lead transformational change in teaching and learning. In this pivotal role, you will champion excellence in Maths across the academy, ensuring the highest standards of learning, development, and achievement for all scholars.
You will plan, prepare, and assess work for all students, including those who are absent, suspended, or in isolation, ensuring no learner is left behind. Your leadership will help remove barriers to learning while maintaining high expectations and academic rigour.
- Drive high standards of attainment, progress, and outcomes for all scholars.
- Deliver differentiated teaching that builds on prior knowledge and individual capabilities.
- Encourage reflective learning and adapt classroom practice to meet emerging needs.
- Lead by example, modelling outstanding teaching and supporting colleagues to improve practice.
- A highly effective or aspiring middle leader with a proven track record of impact in Maths.
- Someone who shares our values and mission, and thrives in a culture of high expectations.
- A passionate educator who believes every child can succeed, regardless of background or starting point.
- A knowledge-rich curriculum built on powerful knowledge and traditional teaching methods.
- Centralised planning and resources, freeing you to focus on impactful teaching.
- A warm/strict behaviour system that ensures disruption-free learning.
- Whole-class feedback policy - no burdensome marking.
- Supportive senior leadership and centralised detentions.
- No formal graded observations - instead, ongoing instructional coaching.
- A clear professional progression model with unrivalled opportunities for advancement.
- The curriculum is already planned using resources shared across all Astrea Academies. You need to intellectually prepare for lessons rather than plan from scratch.
- We give feedback to scholars, there is no book marking.
- Behaviour systems are centralised. The senior and pastoral teams organise detentions and children are polite and courteous. You can teach!
- We have 8 INSET days a year to give you the opportunities and time you need to develop as a teacher.
- Our house style is Teach Like a Champion (Lemov). There are no gimmicks, or high workload alternatives to simple and effective teaching from the front.
- There are strong routines that leave very few grey areas. The school is very predictable and calm.
- There is a free lunch if you eat with the scholars as part of Family Dining. This develops their manners and builds good relationships between staff and scholars.
- We are a warm, welcoming and friendly place to work and learn. There are 750 scholars so you will know most people well.
- SLT are visible and approachable. This means that issues can be resolved quickly.
- Our beating heart is our performing arts programme. Every new starter gets a musical instrument and lessons, we all learn poetry by heart, we have shows and productions. You can get involved!
