Job Summary

The Senior Quality Engineer will play a key leadership role within the Immingham IERRT Project, working closely with Subcontractors, Delivery Teams and Engineering to ensure that all works meet the required quality standards. They will promote a culture of “Right First Time, Every Time”, provide expert guidance on quality processes, oversee inspections and surveillance, and ensure full compliance with project requirements, ISO 9001, and contractual obligations.

This role also supports the development of junior quality staff and acts as a key quality representative within project leadership forums.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Leadership & Culture

  • Champion the Quality Culture of Right First Time, Every Time across the project, influencing Project Teams, Consultants and Subcontractors.
  • Promote and embed quality awareness, ensuring best practice is consistently applied.
  • Support and mentor junior members of the Quality Team.

Subcontractor Oversight & Assurance

  • Review, validate, and approve Subcontractor Quality Deliverables, including Quality Plans, ITPs, ITRs, MCRs, samples, benchmarks, mock-ups and calibration registers.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with ISO 9001, project specifications, and Subcontractor Works Information.
  • Monitor progressive assurance through weekly reviews of Subcontractor quality records.
  • Ensure all ITP evidence is submitted, traceable, and accepted in the project quality system.

Site Inspections & Surveillance

  • Lead and undertake daily/weekly quality surveillance in accordance with the Quality Delivery Surveillance Programme.
  • Confirm all documentation listed in ITPs is available and compliant.
  • Prepare weekly Quality Surveillance Reports (QSRs).
  • Identify, raise, and expedite non‑conformances arising from surveillance activities.
  • Oversee snagging with Subcontractors and lead joint inspections upon completion of works.

Project Interface & Communication

  • Attend Delivery and Subcontractor progress meetings to provide senior‑level quality support.
  • Deliver Quality inductions and training for new Subcontractors and Delivery Team personnel.
  • Participate in Lessons Learned workshops and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide expert input into project‑specific quality procedures and management plans.
  • Maintain strong collaborative relationships with Project Leadership, Subcontractors, Consultants and the Quality Team.

Quality Reporting & Performance Management

  • Prepare monthly Quality Performance Reports covering good practices, NCR trends, audit status, KPIs, ITP completion, and cost of quality.
  • Conduct monthly Procurement meetings to review upcoming packages and update the quality tracker.
  • Lead monthly Subcontractor performance scoring and provide feedback where required.
  • Support Delivery Teams in preparing and issuing Handover Package Listings for project and utility stakeholders.
  • Issue notifications to the client and other stakeholders on their ITP control points.
  • Chair NEC Supervisor meetings with the Client when required, in the absence of the QDM.

Continuous Improvement & Technical Competence

  • Apply Quality Management Tools and Techniques to analyze trends, drive improvements, and identify root causes.
  • Ensure measuring equipment and materials inspection processes meet compliance requirements.
  • Support ongoing development of training modules and internal quality resources.
Technical Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 and Quality Management Systems.
  • Excellent understanding of construction quality processes: NCR/Defect Management, Inspection & Testing, Material Inspection, Measuring Equipment Control.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Skilled at preparing high‑quality Quality Performance Reports.
  • Confident in delivering Quality training and presentations.
  • Excellent communication skills — both written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational and time management capabilities.
  • Proficient user of MS Office and project quality management systems.
Qualifications, Certifications & Experience
  • Relevant qualification in Engineering, Quality Management or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Extensive experience in Quality Assurance and Quality Control within construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in senior quality roles on major infrastructure programmes.
  • Strong track record of managing quality interfaces with Subcontractors and Delivery Teams.
