Representative Duties
BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Grounds Maintenance Technician performs a variety of duties to maintain, renovate, and improve District grounds, landscaping, athletic fields and related facilities and open spaces.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents in this classification perform the full range of skilled grounds maintenance duties involved in landscaping and turf maintenance, gardening care, irrigation, and grounds maintenance involving trees, lawns, turf, shrubs, hedges, ground cover, plants, and athletic fields. Knowledge of ground maintenance methods, procedures, equipment, and techniques is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and responsibilities describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be restricted or construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of individuals so classified, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in this classification.
1. Prepare, plant, cultivate, maintain, fertilize, mow, trim, weed, prune and edge lawns, fields, trees, shrubs, hedges, and plants. Report and mitigate safety hazards.
2. Prepare, install, maintain, monitor, and use automatic and/or manual irrigation/watering systems in an effective, economical, and environmentally sound way.
3. Maintain turf and plant landscaping by using aeration and pesticide, insecticide, fungicide, and herbicide applications. Assist with animal control on campus.
4. Maintain safe, clean, and attractive ground areas by raking and removing leaves and plant debris; blowing, collecting, and removing debris from walkways, patios, parking lots, and other outdoor spaces; and emptying exterior trash cans.
5. Operate, use, clean, maintain, and repair manual and mechanical tools, equipment, machinery, and vehicles needed for ground maintenance.
6. Install, monitor, adjust, maintain, repair, and remove automatic irrigation/watering systems and controls.
7. Prepare, mark, chalk, and drag athletic fields and other grounds areas as needed for athletics and other events. Assist in set-up and take-down for events as needed.
8. Perform landscaping and ground improvement projects including tree and feature removal, trench and hole preparation, asphalt and concrete preparation and application, painting and striping, and feature installation.
9. Assist in setting up facilities for meetings, activities, and campus and community events.
10.Assist students, faculty, staff and visitors as needed.
11.Perform job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of high school graduation, GED, and experience in grounds maintenance or related field or the equivalent.
