Job Description and DutiesEffective July 1, 2025, PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 15 and related staff to have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and to receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions on a prorated basis. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees based on hours worked in the pay period.
Under the direction of the Food Administrator I/II, Correctional Facility (CF) or the supervision of the Supervising Correctional Cook, DOC, the Correctional Supervising Cook, CF, supervises and trains staff and inmate-workers responsible for preparing meals for patients in a correctional health care facility. This role oversees the preparation and dispensing of therapeutic diets per physician orders and ensures staff and inmate-workers follow all departmental and institutional policies and procedures, including Title 15, Department Operations Manual, California Code of Regulations Title 22, Standard Operational Procedures, Diet Manual, California Retail Food Code, and Food & Nutrition Services Manual.
The position also supervises cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen facility and equipment, maintains order, and supervises inmate conduct to protect persons and property.
Option I
Experience:
One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Cook Specialist II (Correctional Facility) or a Cook Specialist II.
Option II
Experience:
Two years of experience in a supervisory capacity over cooks and other food service workers with responsibility for supervising and assisting with the preparation, cooking, and serving of various food items.
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
