The Speech Language Pathologist provides for the identification of students with speech or language impairments; provides for the diagnosis and remediation of speech and language deficits for eligible students; and, provides consultation to general education personnel through the MTSS order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Speech Language Pathologist must work closely with the staff and administration of the Interlocal and school district.
- Maintenance of appropriate State licensure.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, in a variety of situations (ie. With students, with school personnel, with administration, with parents, and with community groups).
- Ability to quickly analyze a situation and develop appropriate responses and interventions.
- Ability to respond in a timely manner to requests for information.
- Ability to use current software and web-based programs to perform job responsibilities.
- Ability to work effectively with other personnel.
- Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
- Ensure that all student activities conform to federal, state and interlocal guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district, Interlocal, and community.
- Work effectively with community organizations.
- Monitor and provide training/assistance to staff on student activities.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.

- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.

- Provide speech and language services to eligible students, as designated by the IEP.
- Participate in assessment of student educational needs in regard to communication skills.
This may include observation, interviews, standardized assessments, and curriculum based assessments. - Participate in student improvement teams, as requested.
- Maintain daily speech/language activity logs.
- Complete Medicaid/SPECTRA billing as required for eligible students.
- Consult with other personnel regarding necessary modifications and accommodations, and provide materials as needed.
- Build instruction on previously learned materials.
- Use a variety of teaching materials and techniques as appropriate to meet individual student needs.
- Provide for appropriate re‑teaching, adaptations and modifications, as needed.
- Monitor student progress and make informed, timely educational decisions.
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Implements the district curriculum and instructional strategies to the maximum extent possible, based on the abilities of the student population.
- Demonstrate a commitment to learning and apply new knowledge of instructional strategies and technology skills.
- Participate in district and Interlocal activities, as requested.
- Completes IEPs, evaluations and progress reports, as required by law and in a timely fashion.
- Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
- Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
- Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and others concerning the needs of students and special services that are available.
- Assist with public awareness activities which lead to a better understanding of the needs of exceptional children.
- Cooperate with agencies serving students and their families.
- Monitor post‑secondary outcomes for special education students and provide ongoing input to the staff and administrations on strengths/weaknesses in this proves.
