Registered Nurse II- Wound Care

** Job Summary/Purpose**:

Under limited supervision, the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (WOCN) provides an in-depth plan of care to patients of all ages (neonate to adult) with wounds, ostomies, or continence issues, throughout inpatient units across the division. The role coordinates nursing management and collaborates with other health care providers to implement progressive changes. This position updates clinical practice based on current research and changes in the age and level of development of patients, with consideration of the needs of the patient's family.

** Ability to work in close collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and other health disciplines. Knowledge of consultative and operational processes. Ability to travel between MUSC Downtown, MUSC Northeast, and MUSC Kershaw several times a week for consults and weekly assessments. Ability to assess, monitor, and treat different types of wounds weekly at all three of the Midland's campuses.

May be required to assist with ostomy training and education in the MUSC doctor's office.
** Minimum Training and Education**:
Associate’s Degree in Nursing. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Current WOCNB, Wound and Ostomy (CWON), or Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (WOCN) certification with additional Continence and Foot Care Certification (CFCN) preferred. Wound and Ostomy Certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire. :
Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state, and a minimum of three years of applied related clinical work experience.

(Infrequent) Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs.

(Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include:
To transfer a 100 lb. patient that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.

Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.
