Summary

The Manager in Training assists the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in overall operations and administrative duties. The role requires comprehensive knowledge of each product area or department, and the ability to develop and implement methods to reach store goals and initiatives. Responsibilities include maintaining policies, procedures, and standards, promoting sales and promotions, providing exceptional customer service, and serving as a brand ambassador to acquire and retain customers.

When the Store Manager is absent, the Manager in Training assumes supervisory control and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in controlling Hibbett assets.
  • Consult with the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager to establish action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
  • Assume responsibility for the entire store in the absence of the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager.
  • Provide guidance to employees and customers in all departments.
  • Track inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to ensure profitability.
  • Direct staff to ensure that departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
  • Keep the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager informed about inventory movements and customer trends.
  • Ensure quality customer service is maintained.
  • Perform general administrative duties as needed and be trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
  • Deliver extraordinary customer service, including assisting customers as they enter the store and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
  • Promote and sell Hibbett services and merchandise.
  • Practice and uphold all Hibbett policies, procedures, and standards as listed in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals.
  • Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring accurate internal controls and reporting potential fraud risk.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise employees in the absence of the Store Manager, following organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Conduct interviewing, training, planning, assignment, and direction of work, and resolve problems.
Qualifications
  • Experience working in a retail environment, preferably footwear and athletic apparel.
  • 1–3 years of customer service experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to assist in managing a team and drive overall goals and profits.
  • Self‑starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being prompted.
  • Strong attention to detail and capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Team‑player who is passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.
