The Market Place Ltd is seeking a highly motivated leader to oversee all merchandising and purchasing for assigned categories to attain sales targets and profit objectives for the group of stores. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Retail Operations, the Director of Retail Operations will review and control all budget spending, set inventory controls, monitor labour efficiency, execute merchandising standards, maintain clean and fresh company standards, follow all health and safety guidelines and ensure customer service excellence is delivered in the retail stores.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Must have extensive knowledge and understanding of P&L metrics and key components to drive and sustain positive financial results.
- Will have multi-retail unit responsibilities which include the Grocery stores, Dollar stores, Sears, and the Central Warehouse.
- Must ensure the highest quality of products and services are delivered every day in all retail units.
- Knowledge of pricing and costing policies in all aspects of the grocery store environment.
- Must have a working knowledge of office software, the ability to travel and the capacity to adapt to change.
- Strong supervisory skills – managing conflict, performance management, providing feedback, coaching, mentoring and motivating associates.
- Make effective decisions regarding operational choices in work procedures, inventory allocations, new product purchases, scheduling and other situations where multiple factors must be considered to maximize operating results.
- Ensure all facilities and equipment are maintained in good working order and kept up to date with industry standards.
- Establish and maintain effective security standards and procedures for all areas within the company.
- Must be able to coach, teach, train, and mentor teams in all stores.
- Must be able to work with the senior leadership team to build a strategy for the departments and develop annual targets and goals for the departments.
Experience:
- Must have a positive attitude and be committed to creating a positive work environment
- Five years’ experience in a similar role required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with computer software used in the food industry
- Proficiency with Windows based computers and Microsoft programs including Excel, Word and Outlook email applications, including import and export functions
- Must possess the accounting and math skills necessary to supervise and handle sales transactions, verify invoices, calculate gross margins, percentages, ad losses, create operating budgets and make financial projections
- Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills
- Highly organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment
