Under supervision, operates and maintains light and medium equipment, including trucks, smaller front-end loaders, rollers, motor graders, and street sweepers, as well as related equipment.

• Installs, repairs, and locates water and sewer mains and lines
• Maintains operation of the water and wastewater treatment plants
• Repairs streets, manholes and street signs
• Picks up and disposes of trash and brush
• Reads, maintains, repairs, tests, and replaces water meters
• Trains in operation of equipment
• Turns on and off water service
• Maintains and repairs water pumps and service stations
• May supervise a small crew of laborers
• Performs additional duties as assigned

• Some knowledge of the materials, mechanical devices, tools, and techniques of maintenance and construction
• Ability to safely operate trucks and medium and heavy equipment
• Knowledge of methods and tools used to read, repair, and operate water meters
• Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations
• Ability to listen to, follow and communicate oral and written instructions
• Ability to supervise and work well with a small team

• Completion of high school or GED required
• Two years of experience in construction, operating dump trucks or light equipment, or similar experience required

• A current Kansas driver’s license
• A Class B driver’s license
• Must be available to work nights, overtime, and weekends

Intense physical effort is required. The candidate must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time.

Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc.

The starting salary for this position is $15.50 per hour*.

* Eligible for hire with the City after 720 hours with Express.
