Focus: We are seeking a skilled and innovative Machine Design Engineer to develop and improve machinery and mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in conceptualizing, designing, prototyping, and refining machines for manufacturing or industrial applications.
Essential Job Functions- Develop and optimise product designs and drafting using CAD software (AutoCAD, Solid Works, Inventor, Creo) while ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Design precision tooling and machine mechanisms for automation from conception through implementation phase of a project.
- Conduct FEA simulations, hands‑on prototyping, tolerance stacking evaluation, and engineering production trials to validate design performance and troubleshoot issues prior to entering high‑speed manufacturing.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, drafting, tool & die machine shops, and cross‑functional teams to meet project requirements and improve existing products.
- Apply engineering principles, materials science, and manufacturing engineering processes to create cost‑effective and efficient designs to specific timelines.
- Maintain a high level of technical documentation and detailed 2D drafting, analyse data, and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in design engineering or product development.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, AutoCAD, Inventor, Creo) and simulation tools (DEFORM), and a strong understanding of ASME Y14.5 GD&T drafting. Certification in Y14.5 is preferred.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, machine design automation, mechanics of materials, tolerance stacking, precision tool & die design, metal forming, and manufacturing engineering processes. Understanding of transfer press machinery and form tooling is preferred.
- Ability to perform a high‑level of critical thinking and technical problem‑solving analysis, feasibility studies, engineering trials, detailed engineering price estimates, and calculated risk assessments.
- Must possess a valid US driver’s license.
- This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
- This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate’s ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export licence approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
- This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies. The US Government does not allow non‑US citizens on‑site at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. Therefore, to be considered in the hiring process, the candidate must be a US citizen.
