The Imaging Student Extern delivers high quality, patient‑centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care skills while gaining practical experience and knowledge in imaging principles. Under the supervision of a Registered Radiologic Technologist, the Imaging Student Extern prepares for and assists with x‑ray procedures, in accordance with the Extern’s skills/training and the needs of the Department. The Imaging Student Extern is currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of radiography and can perform higher‑level procedures once competency is achieved.

• Serve as the liaison between patients and departmental physicians and other support team members.
• Obtain patient histories and screen patients for factors/conditions that may affect the imaging procedure.
• Transport patients to and from the procedure area.
• Assist in preparing and positioning patients for procedures and perform patient verification prior to procedure.
• Remain sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, monitoring, and patient care skills. Provide basic patient care and comfort.
• Notify the Radiologic Technologist of any emergencies or concerns.
• Assist in imaging room setup and turnover between patients, ensuring a safe and clean environment.
• Assist with the maintenance and organization of radiology supplies.
• Perform clerical work as needed, including greeting patients and families, registration, filing, answering and transferring phones, and relaying messages.
• Maintain confidentiality of all patient care information to assure that patient’s rights are protected.
• Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
• Adhere to all facility safety practices.
• Participate in educational opportunities to develop optimal patient care, enhanced knowledge, and technical competence.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement.”

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of Radiography.
• 1+ years of imaging education completed, or as mandated by state of practice (preferred).
