Pay RangeBase pay: $27.00/hr - $33.00/hr pay: $27.52 + $6.30 (H & W) hourly.
LocationSocial Security Administration (SSA) – National Records Center, Independence, MO.
Position Summary- Responsible for maintenance and repair of government furnished equipment (GFE) and structural fixtures used in or related to day‑to‑day contract performance.
- Ensure proper operation of equipment used in the contract and facility operations.
- Maintain structural soundness of catwalks, handrails, etc., tightening nuts, bolts, and other components as necessary.
- Maintain a routine inspection and maintenance schedule for the entire NRC facility catwalk system.
- Ensure safety of facility occupants and integrity of the structure.
- Ensure proper lighting and temperature control; inspect rooms for damaged lights and report unresolved issues to SSA.
- Maintain adequate supply inventories at proper levels.
- Notify the government project officer (GPO) or designee if government‑furnished equipment such as photocopiers, fax machines, telephones, computer equipment is not operating properly—no maintenance or repair services performed by the FEMC.
- Report overdue fire extinguisher inspections or questionable equipment.
- Ensure government “golf carts” are fully charged and tires properly inflated.
- Routinely evaluate the condition of non‑motorized/non‑electric moving devices (e.g., stream liners, shopping carts) and repair as required.
- Ensure forklifts are properly charged and report any maintenance needs; forklifts are covered by a third‑party maintenance agreement, so FEMC will not perform repairs.
- Maintain a tracking/reporting system for all NRC repairs.
- Oversee or assist in the movement of furniture related to contract performance.
- FEMC will not perform maintenance/repair on equipment under warranty or covered by a third‑party agreement.
- SSA will provide all necessary parts and tools.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Experience in visual inspections of GFE and interior structural components (e.g., catwalks, handrails).
- Ability to conduct periodic facility‑wide equipment inventories and generate reports.
- Experience managing property control or inventory control systems.
- History of strict compliance with personally identifiable information (PII) and facility security requirements.
- Ability to perform maintenance/repair on minor facility structures/equipment.
- Ability to maintain a tracking/reporting system for all NRC repairs using Excel.
- Ability to follow up on resolved/unresolved issues in a timely manner.
- Ability to communicate and work in a team environment.
- Strong customer‑relations skills required; direct interaction with clients.
- Ability to train co‑workers in safe practices and conduct presentations or training sessions.
- Ability to write concise weekly reports of FEMC activities and email to appropriate personnel.
- Ability to oversee or assist in the movement of furniture related to contract performance.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must meet Post‑Offer Essential Functions (POET) test standards, including drug testing.
- Two to three years of comparable working experience preferred.
- High School graduate or GED equivalent.
- Data entry skills for generating reports.
- Computer experience to generate and email reports using MS Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
- Supervisory history is a plus.
- OSHA‑10 level knowledge and work history preferable.
- Experienced forklift/hand truck operator; must obtain OSHA level certification within the first month of employment.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English; additional language skills considered if needed by business.
- Applicants must pass pre‑employment background checks and security clearance; individuals with certain felony or property‑related convictions may be rejected.
Job Requirements
- Ability to move throughout all site areas, including stairs and catwalks.
- Stand and/or sit continuously for a full shift, including meal breaks.
- Ability to push and pull loaded carts approximately 1 mile.
- Safe operation requires use of both hands.
- Frequent overhead lifting of 35 lbs or less.
- Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs without assistance.
- Visual acuity sufficient to perform job functions; color discrimination required.
- Normal work week Monday through Friday; occasional need for morning, afternoon, or evening availability any day of the week.
- Hourly employees generally scheduled for 40 hours; overtime may be required based on company needs.
