Pathfinder Career Academy (PCA) is Ohio’s first virtual school dedicated to career development and preparation for all students. PCA serves grades 6‑12, offering career exploration and pathway programs that set students on a path to success in college and career goals. The Virtual IT CTE Teacher effectively educates high school students in accordance with the school philosophy, policies, and governing bodies. This online position requires occasional in‑person attendance for state testing and student events.
Responsibilities- Serve as teacher of record and primary instructor for Teaching Professions students.
- Teach content area following the school’s course of study or as assigned, using technology and varying teaching modalities.
- Oversee and deliver curriculum that aligns to Career‑Technical Education and Career‑based intervention standards.
- Adapt and enrich the curriculum using multiple strategies and online tools to actively engage students for enrichment or remediation.
- Align material to ODE CTE standards or create course material aligned to applicable end‑of‑course assessments.
- Initiate, recruit, and guide students through an active chapter of a CTSO.
- Motivate students to meet attendance, academic, behavioral, and other goals.
- Maintain a positive school environment through conflict resolution, collaboration, positive reinforcement, and educational leadership.
- Maintain a safe classroom environment and issue discipline in an orderly fashion conducive to learning.
- Keep accurate records for each student (grade books, progress reports, lesson plans, attendance, behavior/discipline records).
- Establish and maintain rapport with students, parents, staff, school administration, and other stakeholders.
- Perform home visits as needed and prepare/administer standardized tests as directed.
- Recognize teachable moments and develop classroom experiences that apply knowledge to real‑world problems.
- Learn and use data and delivery systems necessary for content, resources, and student assessment.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all student information.
- Use computers and technology to support student learning.
- Participate in ongoing professional development.
- Collaborate with others to achieve duties and responsibilities.
- Attend school activities such as faculty meetings, open houses, commencement exercises, field trips, and professional learning communities.
- Model tolerance, global awareness, reflective practice, and expected behaviors.
- Assist in student recruitment and retention.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
- Current Ohio CTE teaching license required in preferred field, or ability to obtain a CTE supplemental license.
- Strong content knowledge in Business and technology.
- Experience with research‑based instructional practices for project‑based learning.
- Familiarity with the Response to Intervention (RTI) process.
- Strong ability to analyze student data and make sound educational decisions.
- Prior online teaching experience preferred.
- Proficiency in computer applications including Google Docs, MS Office Suite, e‑mail, and internet applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A passion for teaching and genuine care for children.
- Understanding of and ability to manage confidential information.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with a diverse student body and peer group.
- Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
