The job of Head Coach is responsible for coordinating, organizing, promoting, and operating an assigned sport to meet the needs of student athletes, the school, and the community. The coach provides effective leadership within the school and community, demonstrating professionalism and ethics, developing positive relationships with student athletes, parents, and community members, and serving as a positive role model.

This position reports to the Athletic Director and is under the supervision of the Building Principal.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compile and maintain accurate individual and team performance records using HYTEK (Track).
  • Set up and take down equipment and maintain a clean facility.
  • Attend meetings scheduled by the Athletic Director.
  • Comply with district rules, regulations, policies (Safe Schools), athletic conference, and O.S.A.A. standards, where applicable.
  • Educate athletes and assistant coaches on safety procedures, including injury reporting.
  • Foster team-building concepts.
  • Implement procedures for handling injuries, ensuring the availability of first aid supplies and emergency care cards.
  • Issue, collect, inventory, and store equipment securely.
  • Model positive and professional conduct.
  • Monitor athletes’ attendance, grades, and conduct.
  • Motivate individuals and teams on and off the field.
  • Plan and organize teaching fundamentals, strategies, and rules within district and conference guidelines.
  • Collaborate with high school programs to ensure consistent language, strategy, and philosophy across the district.
  • Stay informed of changes in rules, techniques, and philosophies relevant to the sport.
  • Supervise practices and contests, including locker rooms and transportation.
  • Transport athletes to and from away events.
  • Direct assistant activities.
  • Recruit students for participation in the sport.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies of the district, athletic conference, and O.S.A.A. where applicable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students and adults, including managing conflicts.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license.
  • ASEP certification is encouraged but not required at the middle level.
  • Clear criminal background check and fingerprinting are required.
