Position Overview
The Associate Professor / Professor in the Department of Optometry at Chandigarh University is responsible for excellence in teaching, research, clinical training, and academic leadership. The role involves educating undergraduate and postgraduate students, advancing research in optometry and vision science, contributing to clinical and community eye-care services, and supporting institutional development and accreditation.
Senior faculty (Professor) are additionally expected to provide strategic leadership, mentor faculty members, and lead research and academic initiatives at the departmental and university levels.

Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching & Academic Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Optometry, including theory, practical, and clinical sessions.
Design, develop, and periodically update curriculum and course content in line with regulatory guidelines and global best practices.
Prepare teaching materials, lesson plans, assessments, and examination content.
Supervise student clinical training, internships, projects, and dissertations/theses.
Provide academic advising and mentorship to students for professional and career development.
2. Research & Scholarly Activities
Conduct independent and collaborative research in optometry, vision science, and related interdisciplinary areas.
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
Present papers at conferences, seminars, workshops, and professional forums.
Apply for and manage funded research projects and grants.
Promote a research culture among students and junior faculty.

3. Clinical & Community Engagement
Supervise and enhance clinical services in university eye clinics and optometry laboratories.
Ensure high standards of clinical practice, patient care, and ethical conduct.
Participate in community outreach programs such as vision screening camps, eye-health awareness initiatives, and public health activities.
Integrate clinical practice with teaching and research.

4. Academic Leadership & Mentorship
Mentor junior faculty members in teaching, research, and professional development.
Participate in faculty recruitment, orientation, and performance evaluation.
Guide academic planning, curriculum review, and departmental growth initiatives.

5. Administrative & Institutional Service
Serve on departmental, faculty, and university-level committees.
Contribute to accreditation, quality assurance, and academic audits (NAAC, NBA, etc.).
Assist in organizing academic events such as conferences, workshops, FDPs, and seminars.
Represent the department and university in academic, professional, and industry forums.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Qualifications
Ph.D. in Optometry or a closely related discipline.
Relevant teaching, research, and clinical experience as per UGC/University norms.
Experience Expectations
Associate Professor:
Significant teaching and research experience with a strong publication record.
Professor:
Extensive academic experience with demonstrated leadership, high-impact research contributions, and successful mentoring of faculty and researchers.
