Job Description & How to Apply Below
About the Role
We are looking for a Librarian who goes beyond managing books. This role is for a knowledge catalyst — someone who transforms the Library & Knowledge Resource Centre into a dynamic, student-facing learning hub. The ideal candidate will combine traditional library expertise with a forward-looking approach to digital literacy, academic support, and research facilitation, actively contributing to the academic mission of the institute.
Key Responsibilities
Library Operations & Resource Management
Manage acquisition, cataloguing, classification, and circulation of print and digital resources in accordance with AICTE/DTE norms
Maintain and update the library management system (LMS/OPAC) and ensure accurate record-keeping
Oversee periodical subscriptions, reference collections, and institutional repositories
Ensure compliance with library audit requirements and accreditation documentation (DTE, NBA, NAAC)
Digital Library & Technology Integration
Develop and manage access to e-resources, open-access databases, NPTEL, DELNET, INFLIBNET (N-LIST), and e-journals
Promote and train students and faculty on digital resource navigation and retrieval tools
Maintain the digital catalogue and assist in building an institutional digital repository
Explore and implement emerging library technologies including QR-coded resources, e-lending, and virtual reading rooms
Student & Faculty Engagement (Proactive Role)
Conduct orientation sessions, reading programmes, and library literacy workshops for students
Actively collaborate with faculty to align library resources with curriculum, syllabi, and project requirements
Support students in literature search, citation management, and reference work for projects and seminars
Facilitate book clubs, reading challenges, quiz competitions, and knowledge-sharing events within the institute
Act as a resource person for skill development and general knowledge enrichment activities
Research & Academic Support
Assist faculty and students in accessing research databases, journals, and patent repositories
Support preparation of research documentation and publication-related resource needs
Maintain awareness of government schemes, scholarships, and competitive exam resources and actively disseminate this information to students
Curate and display subject-specific resource guides (pathfinders) for each department
Administration & Accreditation Support
Maintain all library statistics, usage data, and reports for NAAC/NBA/DTE submissions
Prepare and manage the library budget in coordination with the Principal
Ensure proper upkeep of the library infrastructure, furniture, and reading environment
Supervise library support staff and student volunteers
Qualifications
Essential
First Class Master's degree in Library & Information Science (M.Lib.Sc. / M.L.I.Sc.) — Master's Degree in Library is Must
First Class, Bachelor's degree in Library Science (B.Lib.Sc.) or Bachelor's in Library & Information Science (B.L.I.Sc.)
Desirable
NET/SET qualification in Library & Information Science
Diploma or certification in Computer Applications / IT
Required Skills
Proficiency in library management software (SOUL, KOHA, or equivalent)
Working knowledge of INFLIBNET, DELNET, N-LIST, and OPAC systems
Sound knowledge of Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and AACR2/RDA cataloguing standards
Good written and spoken communication in English, Hindi, and Marathi
Ability to engage proactively with students, faculty, and administrative stakeholders
Preferred Skills
Experience in a polytechnic, engineering college, or technical institution library
Familiarity with NAAC/NBA documentation and accreditation support processes
Knowledge of open-access resources, creative commons licensing, and research support tools
Basic digital content creation skills (for library notice boards, social media handles, or newsletters)
What We Expect Beyond the Desk
The candidate should be genuinely enthusiastic about promoting a reading and learning culture — not waiting for students to come in, but going out to classrooms, departments, and events to make the library relevant to every student's journey. This includes identifying academically at-risk students and encouraging library usage as a support mechanism, coordinating with TPO for competitive exam resource support, and ensuring the library is a vibrant, visible part of campus life.
Location
Sanjivani Polytechnic Institute Campus, Kopargaon – 423 601, Dist. Ahmednagar, Maharashtra.
(Near Shirdi — well-connected by road, air and rail)
