Job Description:

Line Inspector

Machine Shop Line Inspector ensures that in-process and finished machined parts meet quality standards, blueprints, and tolerances. They perform routine inspections using precision tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM), document results, and stop production to address defects. This role is vital for maintaining ISO standards, preventing defective parts, and verifying setups.

Key Responsibilities

In-Process Inspection:
Conduct routine, random, or 100% inspection of parts directly on the production line, including CNC machine components.
Technical Inspection:
Measure dimensions, surface finishes, and tolerances using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMM.
Blueprints & Standards:
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications (GD&T) to verify compliance.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of inspection results, data, and non-conformance reports.
Quality Control:
Identify defects, initiate corrective actions, and collaborate with machinists to resolve quality issues.
Setup Approval:
Approve initial machine setups for production runs.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education:

Diploma, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.

Experience:

0-3 years in quality inspection within a CNC machine shop.

Technical

Skills:

Proficiency in using measuring instruments (Vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges) and reading blueprints/engineering drawings.

Knowledge:
Understanding of GD&T, ISO 9001, and SPC (Statistical Process Control).

Attributes:
Strong attention to detail and, in some cases, ability to work in a, fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Typical Working Conditions

Full-time, in-person, often with rotating shifts.

Involves working on the factory floor and interacting with production personnel.
