Job Purpose

To lead a high-quality basketball program that promotes skill development, teamwork, physical fitness, and character building. The Basketball Coach will plan and conduct training sessions, mentor students across skill levels, and prepare teams for internal and external competitions while fostering a love for the game in a safe and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Coaching & Instruction

Deliver structured basketball coaching sessions focusing on fundamentals (dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, positioning, and game strategy).

Tailor training programs to suit various skill levels (beginner to advanced).

Foster individual and team development through progressive drills, scrimmages, and fitness routines.

Program Development

Design a basketball curriculum aligned with the school's physical education and extracurricular objectives.

Plan seasonal calendars including practice sessions, tournaments, and inter-house matches.

Support student-athletes in balancing academics and sports participation.

Competition & Team Management

Select and train school basketball teams for inter-school, regional, and international competitions.

Develop competitive game strategies and manage teams during tournaments.

Accompany students to competitions, ensuring proper supervision and team conduct.

Student Mentorship & Engagement

Promote positive sportsmanship, discipline, and respect both on and off the court.

Provide individual feedback and guidance to help students improve skills and confidence.

Identify and mentor students with potential for higher-level competition or scholarships.

Facilities & Equipment Oversight

Ensure the basketball court and related equipment are well-maintained and safe.

Manage inventory and request resources as needed (balls, uniforms, cones, first aid kits, etc.).

Enforce safety and injury prevention measures during all sessions.

Collaboration & Communication

Coordinate with the PE department and extracurricular team for scheduling and program alignment.

Maintain regular communication with parents and school leadership about team activities, events, and student progress.

Participate in staff meetings, sports events, and school community initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field (preferred)

Certified Basketball Coaching qualification from a recognized body (e.g., FIBA, USA Basketball, BFI, or equivalent)

Minimum 2–5 years of experience coaching basketball at the school, club, or regional level

First Aid and CPR certification (required)

Experience working with children and adolescents in a school setting

Skills & Attributes

Experience coaching competitive teams in tournaments or leagues

Ability to assist in other sports or school physical education programs

Familiarity with IB CAS or co-curricular program integration

Experience with student-athlete recruitment or college prep guidance

Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles for youth athletes
