Behavior Modification Technician
Under the direct supervision, a Behavior Technician works to establish positive student contacts that develop appropriate and positive behavior modifications enabling students to succeed. He/she will assist instructional personnel by participating as a team member in the development and monitoring of comprehensive behavioral objectives, goals and plans, including a Behavior Support Plan (BSP) and/or a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).
1. Implements behavioral programs designed to make positive and appropriate changes.
2. Assesses crisis situations and defuses situations using conflict resolution and crisis management techniques. Utilizes physical restraint techniques, only with proper training, to redirect behavior.
3. Oversees a Guidance Center or In School Suspension room for students needing assistance outside the classroom setting.
4. Evaluates student's needs and provides interventions to redirect behavior while implementing appropriate consequences to address behaviors
5. Works with related agencies to develop an effective program of activities for changing unacceptable behavior of students.
Accurately maintain school records, i.e. student information, as required by state or federal laws, and Union County Board of Education policies, and/or school-based request, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law.
Assists the school site team by monitoring student behavior changes, assisting with academics, and supervising various activities during the course of the instructional day to maintain a controlled and safe environment for students and staff
Consults with teachers, support staff, and administrators to obtain information and advice on prior behavior problems, and provides information as necessary concerning behavioral concerns.
Ensures consistency of behavioral standards by coordinating with appropriate student contacts.
Engage with parents/guardians to discuss and address student behavioral concerns.
Attends IEP (Individualized Education Plan) and student progress meetings as requested
Participates in school level, district level and other meetings as directed by supervisor
Oversees peer counseling groups, social skills instruction, recreational activities, and other learning opportunities as requested
Attends and provides trainings regarding safety, security, physical restraints and behavior management procedures as requested
Effectively produces professionally written correspondence across various communication mediums, i.e. cell phone, computer
Performs other duties as assigned
Ability to work with diverse individuals and/or group
Requires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
Two (2) years of college level related Bachelor's degree in Social Service or coursework related field
High School Diploma with additional Active Nonviolent Crisis Intervention specialized training/certifications (NCI) Certification
Must be adaptable to performing in stressful and emergency situations
Sedentary/Medium - Exert force 10-25 lbs., frequently; and up to 10 lbs., constantly; or a negligib amount of force to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.

NCI Intervention may require a significant physical demand by employees. Force and Strength may vary based on stu need. Physical Demands:
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision:
Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, or other monitoring devices.
