Go Program. Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is the state’s largest hunger relief organization and one of the leading food banks in the Feeding America Network.

Go Volunteer Leader is responsible for orchestrating the fulfillment of direct custom orders through the Gleaners2

Go Program and leading volunteer groups. The volunteer leader will meet operational and customer service objectives while ensuring compliance with safety, security, regulatory, and compliance policies.

Essential Functions
  • Work hands‑on leading volunteers with order fulfillment to make G2G orders ready for distribution. Orders may include dry, refrigerated, and frozen product. Groups of volunteers range from 2‑30 people.
  • Responsible for setting up, leading, and tearing down volunteer projects.
  • Use warehouse inventory management system and forklift to replenish and move product.
  • Assist with daily and weekly inventory counts.
  • Follow established picking procedures to obtain product for builds from Gleaners inventory.
  • Be the first line of troubleshooting for volunteer issues during builds.
  • Create labels for orders with names, locations and times. Wrap and prepare pallets for shipment.
  • Communicate to transportation how many boxes/orders need to go to each site and time.
  • Work with Volunteer team to plan for volunteer needs and create volunteer training to support.
  • Work with Supervisor to create new processes for increasing order fulfillment and streamline productivity.
  • Ability to organize and process manage expanded inventory options for neighbors. This is basically referring to future goals of increasing the amount of options/choice for neighbors. So, the number of items will eventually increase.
  • Implement new technology created for fulfillment, understand and deploy for more accurate and efficient work activity.
  • Log and communicate volunteer feedback to inform future software development.
  • Work safely and operate PIT equipment according to Gleaners and OSHA guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance and adherence to all food safety guidelines according to GFB, Feeding America, AIB, USDA, ISDH and any other applicable processes or regulations for safe and sanitary production and storage of all products.
  • Active participation in staff, departmental, board or board committee meetings as requested.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • 1‑2 years of administrative/order entry and customer service experience preferred.
  • Grocery retail experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to train and lead a group of individuals
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and relationship management skills
  • Ability to perform basic math functions, to count accurately and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Distinguish between case and pallet counts versus pallet weights as required, understand pallet numbers, inventory lots, and warehouse locations.
  • ERP (Warehouse/Inventory Management System)
  • Forklift certification (or ability to be certified)
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • A commitment to full and visible participation as a hunger relief leader in the community.
  • Experience with manual and electronic warehouse documentation tools including barcode hardware.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving skills, and ability to think creatively.
  • Valid driver's license/Clean driving record /Must be insurable by company vehicle insurance provider
