Position Purpose

The Estimator, Koetter Construction (KC) is responsible for estimating efforts in the construction division. This includes putting estimates together from start to finish, as well as estimating strategy. This person is responsible for all aspects of estimating, including responding to requests for quotes, meeting with customers, estimating costs for projects, review & assess incoming projects, bid dates, as well as assigning pricing.

This position will work collaborate with other members of the team as well as other divisions to increase the overall company performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Put quotes together for individual projects, as well as team projects
• Investigate, apply, & communicate pricing, trends, & technology with staff & customers
• If an initiative is lagging, work with teams to employ the required countermeasures to get back on track in the most expeditious fashion
• Upkeep of pricing in the estimating spreadsheets
• Track estimates & contracts for monthly reporting
• Identify trends & continually review these with the Director of Pre-Construction

Customer Relations

• Negotiate preferred positions with customers while also building strong, long-term, customer relationships
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with key people in existing and potential customers understanding what is important to the health of the relationship
• Present the company’s bid packages and communicate back to internal groups the outcome of negotiations/proposals focusing on conveying the expectations set forth for each group, i.e., clear details, critical time frames, and expectations
• Engage with the customer in contract negotiations within the company’s margin and contractual goals and policies
• Consult with clients after sales or contract signings to resolve problems and to provide ongoing support

Project Estimating and Pricing

• Qualify new business to assure resources are dedicated to targeted opportunities
• Understand and anticipate the market’s movements on raw materials and adjust pricing accordingly
• Maintain and continue to refine the Company’s project cost estimating process to promote accuracy and quickness
• Include the trade divisions’ costing input on complex projects as needed
• Continue to search for areas to improve the project’s margin without sacrificing on the team’s safety, project quality, or timeliness
• Price bids according to the company’s goals, policies, and strategies

Department Leadership

• Have constant communication with the estimating team to create clear direction on projects and our goals
• Be involved with periodic project reviews with the estimating team to assure the tactical plans as are being executed according to expectations
• Provide periodic projections as required
• Collaborate with KC Project Managers relating to matters such as current costs versus estimated costs, subcontractor quality, projected workload demands, etc.

Subcontractor Development

• Maintain a group of subcontractors that will supplement the company’s existing divisional trades
• Maintain constructive relationships with the sub-contractors and suppliers
• Actively seek new high-quality subcontractors
• Develop and maintain the company’s subcontractor rating system

Education & Experience

• Technical degrees preferred
• Must have 5 years of commercial construction estimating experience
• Experience estimating up to and including $30MM contracts preferred

The employee is maybe occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
