OverviewThe Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), in partnership with IU Health Medical Group (IUHMG), is seeking an experienced, academically oriented cytopathologist. This recruitment supports strategic expansion across the IU Health system. The pathology team serves 10 hospitals within the IU Health Hospital network and Eskenazi Health. Anatomic pathology is currently comprised of 55 pathologists.
The successful candidate will contribute to a thriving pathology program that supports clinical excellence, education, and research.
Diagnostic responsibilities for the cytopathologist’s service include routine exfoliative and fine needle aspiration specimens and rapid on-site evaluations (ROSE). The cytopathology service is supported by a large team of cytologists. The academic track and rank of the appointment will be determined by qualifications and level of experience.
Responsibilities- Combine clinical expertise with teaching, translational/clinical research, and leadership responsibilities.
- Interpret cytologic specimens, including Pap smears, fine needle aspirations (FNA), and Non-GYN specimens
- Provide diagnostic consultations to clinicians and participate in multidisciplinary case reviews
- Perform and supervise FNAs, including rapid on-site evaluations (ROSE)
- Ensure quality assurance and compliance with laboratory standards and regulations
- Provide conference support with department faculty members
- Conduct and support scholarly activities and collaborative research
- Actively participate in educational activities with medical students, residents, and fellows
- A Doctorate or terminal degree (MD, DO, or equivalent) is required.
- Board certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
- Completion of a Cytopathology fellowship or equivalent substantial experience, along with board certification in Cytopathology.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Indiana
- Strong base salary that is not RVU-based
