Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) in conjunction with IU Health Medical Group (IUHMG), are recruiting an academic pediatric pathologist to serve the pediatric patient population of Indiana.
The individual selected will join a growing team of experienced pediatric pathologists based at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis. The IU Health Central Pathology Laboratory (IUHPL) is located less than a mile from Riley and is home to a large faculty of subspecialized academic pathologists, affording easy access to collaboration. This opportunity provides the unique flexibility to sign out on the adult service for those who wish to practice pediatric pathology at a dedicated children’s hospital while maintaining other subspeciality expertise.
Additionally, a new onsite Maternity Tower at Riley affords opportunities for growth in perinatal/placental evaluations. The position is available on the clinical track; academic rank is determined by qualifications and level of experience.
- Deliver professional diagnostic services comprising anatomic pathology
- Provide diagnostic services for pediatric autopsy and perinatal pathology
- Provide on-call coverage and conference support with department faculty members
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary clinical care team
- Teach medical students, residents, and fellows
- Support needs of rapidly growing pediatric divisions, including prominent pediatric GI service
- Support pediatric oncology service with emerging Precision Genomics
Riley Children's Health
- Riley is a nationally ranked freestanding 354-bed, pediatric acute care children's hospital with an associated maternity tower and 112 bed NICU
- Riley has a growing pediatric cancer program with >250 new pediatric cases annually, an active gastroenterology/hepatology department and multivisceral organ transplant service, and a growing research footprint across all clinical specialties
- The pediatric pathology service is responsible for approximately 5,000 surgical specimens, 1,500 placental/perinatal specimens, and 50 autopsies annually with continued regional expansion
- A dedicated pediatric pathologists’ assistant is a member of the pediatric pathology team
- IUHPL has first-class facilities and serves as the centralized AP & CP testing facility for numerous IU Health hospitals and affiliated clinics performing 15 million diagnostic tests annually

The IU Health Pathology Laboratory resides in a 150,000-square-foot dedicated central laboratory building in downtown Indianapolis with first-class facilities. The lab processes over 100,000 cases per year, and houses an electron microscopy laboratory, eight full-time certified pathologists’ assistants, twenty residents and eleven different fellowships. IU Health pathologists are engaged in promoting innovation and excellence in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows, with strong support for research in an environment that provides the ability to collaborate with a diverse cadre of subspecialized pathologists.
