Job Details

One-year fellowship

Offers comprehensive training in Lung Transplant, ECMO, Pulmonary Hypertension, and Interstitial Lung Disease

The curriculum provides understanding of the care continuum for transplant patients, including pre- and post-surgical phases in inpatient and outpatient settings

Participate in candidate selection, donor evaluation, peri-operative management (lung and heart transplants), and mechanical support for bridging to transplant. After completion, fellows can become primary lung transplant physicians at an accredited program

Gain proficiency in peri-operative management of Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension post-Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy, and manage mechanical support devices like ECMO variants, LVAD, and Impella

Opportunities include advanced echocardiogram training, organ procurement, engagement with HLA laboratory, exposure to advanced procedures, and research initiatives

Program Highlights

The IU Health Lung Transplant program, Indiana's only lung transplant program, is experiencing rapid growth with an expected volume of 60-65 transplants this year. The Pulmonary Hypertension Program is PHA-accredited. The ECMO program, certified by ELSO, is a top-volume center globally in 2023, having completed over 1000 ECMO runs since 2011. The interstitial lung disease program is recognized by the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

Qualifications

MD or DO

Candidate must be Pulmonary/Critical Care Board Certified

Completion of ACGME-accredited pulmonary critical care fellowship before starting the advanced fellowship
