High School Math Teacher
Position:
High School Math Teacher at Indianapolis Public Schools.
Develop students' skills and competence in basic and complex mathematical principles, equations, formulas and calculations, and apply mathematics to solve practical problems.
Essential Performance Responsibilities- Develop and administer mathematics curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
- Promote a safe and conducive classroom environment for individualized and small group instruction.
- Plan lessons and instructional materials; translate lesson plans into sequential learning experiences to challenge students.
- Teach mathematics, including real and imaginary numbers, formulas, calculations, geometry, and promote creative thinking and analysis.
- Design learning activities demonstrating the application of mathematics to everyday life and problem solving.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning; modify instruction to meet individual student needs, including students with special needs.
- Maintain familiarity with district and state standardized tests and adapt curriculum to maximize test achievement.
- Continue professional development through seminars, workshops, or research.
- Organize accurate records of grading and reporting per district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies.
- Coordinate with grade‑level staff; participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, and equipment; maintain inventory records.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction.
- Knowledge of mathematics subject areas: arithmetic, equations, calculus, trigonometry, geometry.
- Knowledge of data systems, analysis, and action planning.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
- Ability to use computer networks and software applications.
- Organizational and coordination skills.
- Effective communication with students and parents.
- Self‑evaluation and professional growth orientation.
- Ability to establish cooperative relationships.
Works in standard office and school building environments. Refer to the Summary of Physical, Sensory, and Environmental Requirements for essential functions.
EquipmentStandard office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copier, fax machine, telephone.
Travel RequirementsTravel to district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Qualifications ProfileCertification/License: State certification as a Mathematics Education Teacher.
Transportation: Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide personal transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in education discipline applicable to teaching.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
